
Course outline In year 12 students will study two units in order to achieve an AS level equivalent qualification called the Certificate in Financial Studies (CeFS). In year 13 students progress with their studies by completing two further units in order to achieve the full 1 A Level equivalent qualification called the Diploma in Financial Studies (DipFS). Year 12 Units: Unit 1: Financial Capability for the Immediate and Short Term Unit 2: Financial Capability for the Medium and Long Term Year 13 Units: Unit 3: Sustainability of an Individual’s Finances Unit 4: Sustainability of the Financial Services System Lesson structure and expectations All lessons will be based in a computer room because this is a web-based course where all materials and supporting interactive resources can be accessed electronically. A resource book is also provided for each of the units for use in class and for homework. In year 12 the course focuses on encouraging students to become responsible borrowers, sensible savers and to appreciate the need for financial planning throughout their life. In year 13 the focus is on students making informed and confident decisions relating to sustainability for their own individual finances and also in relation to the financial services system. Lessons will involve discussion, research, direct teacher instruction and independent online work. Course requirements A Grade 4 in both GCSE Mathematics and English language. Next steps The subject gives students a wide choice of progression options including further study of finance or related disciplines at degree level, vocational training through an apprenticeship scheme or relevant employment in the financial sector.
