Course summary
This is a two year course that offers an excellent progression from the BTEC Level 2 Engineering course. The full course consists of 4 units of work completed over two years. It is assessed internally and externally through project-based coursework assignments, including a range of practical tasks and presentations. In year 12 there are two units of study. One is an internally marked piece of coursework and the other is a written exam. The coursework is built around the Greenpower electric car project as part of a national competition where students will attempt to design and build their own racing car working in teams. This course aims to prepare students for the workplace by developing them as self-motivated individuals, who can confidently work independently using their practical knowledge of a wide range of engineering skills and apply critical thinking. Students work in groups throughout the duration of the course and will develop excellent team building and team working skills. They will produce professional presentations to potential sponsors and project manage their team’s entry in the national Greenpower electric car racing competition, attempting to reach the national finals in their second year.
