
Studying Construction at the Royal Greenwich Trust School enables learners to explore the ever changing and developing sector of Construction and the various sectors within.Construction has a massive influence in present day London which is experiencing one of the biggest construction booms of the century. Btec Construction allows learners to study the construction sector providing a base for further education in the industry The Construction course has been designed as a two year linear course equivalent to three A levels, but students have the choice of studying the equivalent of one or two A levels. This course consists of nine mandatory units and six specially chosen units to provide the broadest range of engineering sectors possible to learners. Mandatory Units: • Construction Principles • Construction Design • Tendering and Estimating • Health and Safety in Construction • Construction Technology • Project in Construction • Surveying in Construction • Graphic Detailing in Construction • Building Regulations and Control in Construction Chosen Units: • Low Temperature Hot Water Systems • Provision of Primary Services • Site Engineering for Construction • Projects in construction • Planning Application Procedures, • Conversion, Adaption and Maintenance of Buildings
GCSE marking scheme 9 - 4 in English and Maths plus “good (9 – 3)” grades in three other subjects
Exam Units Unit 1 Construction Principles Learners demonstrate an understanding of the underlying principles used in the design, construction and refurbishments of buildings and infrastructure Unit 2 Construction Design Learners will apply the principles and practice of design and construction for low- and medium-rise buildings and structures. Unit 3 Tendering and Estimating Learners carry out estimating procedures to produce an estimated project cost and then consider external factors and risks to develop a firm tender offer
