Are you ready to embark on an intellectual journey back in time, unravelling the mysteries of the past and providing valuable insights into the present and future? If so, A-Level History offers an unparalleled opportunity to plunge into the recesses of human history, developing your critical thinking and analytical skills, leading to a profound understanding of the world we inhabit. Furthermore, there will be the opportunity to go on a residential trip to Berlin to visit some of the key sites such as the Berlin Wall; the Holocaust Memorial and the Brandenburg Gate to further compliment your History A-Level. You will have the opportunity in Year 12 to explore modern European History, tracing the journey of 20th Century Spain from monarchy to republic; dictatorship to democracy. You will uncover how this vibrant nation has shaped the modern world. Alongside this you will explore 20th Century Germany, from the devastation of World War Two through post war divisions of East and West Germany and on to their eventual reunification. In Year 13 you will drop into the tumultuous world of medieval England and The Wars of the Roses. Discover the intrigue, power struggles and dynastic conflict of medieval England featuring the legendary figures of Henry V and Richard III. Finally, in our coursework unit you will have the opportunity to conduct historical research and explore and compare historians' interpretations of a controversy in the past. This will be under our expert guidance and will equip you well for researching independently at University and completing extended pieces of writing. A-Level History is a rewarding course giving you the opportunity to unravel the complex narratives that have shaped our world through the analysis of historical evidence and the work of historians. It is suited to students who have an innate curiosity about the past and enjoy the challenge of evaluating both contemporary historical sources and historians’ interpretations to construct their own arguments.
