Lesson work is creative, practical and will require your commitment. You will develop your ability to perform in front of others and learn to communicate effectively within theatrical means. You will be required to undertake study and analysis of live theatre you have seen and develop understanding and be able to critique the two set texts which you will explore practically. You will participate in independent rehearsals for your practical exams and you will experiment and perform texts and devise your own original work. You can choose to be assessed on a number of skills including acting or directing, but also in the technical theatre arts of lighting, sound, costume or set design. You will work with professional theatre companies, such as Frantic Assembly and Gecko and will develop your repertoire of performance skills which can be transferable to other subjects. You will explore the many layers of theatre which, when combined, will lead to imaginative work and create a profound performance experience. You will develop your critical understanding of performance and will be able to form well-balanced opinions and responses to live theatre and its process.
Grade 5 English is an advised entry requirement due to the demands of the written component of the course. No prior qualification in Drama is required, though an interest in theatre and a willingness to perform and engage with the creative process is essential.
