
The course is divided into four components: Component 1: Recording. Students use a range of techniques to record, edit and mix sounds to produce an audio recording. Component 2: Technology based composition. Students will use technology to explore a variety of techniques for developing their own musical ideas. Component 3: Listening and appraising. Students will identify, analyse and evaluate a range of creative production techniques within commercial recordings. Component 4: Producing and analysing. Students will work with un-edited audio and MIDI materials to correct them and create a final product, commenting on their work throughout.
Level 2 Merit in BTEC Music or equivalent is desirable, however competency and interest in music by performing regularly and developing instrumental skills is required.
The course includes a mixture of externally marked coursework and written and practical exams.
