Course summary

The aim of Computing A Level is not only to foster a passion for the subject, but to support you in your choice of further study/career beyond school, whether in a computing field or not. 80% of the assessment is via written examination covering topics under the general headings of Computer Systems and Algorithms, and Programming. Additionally, as part of the A Level, there is the opportunity for coursework, focused on coding. In Year 13 the theoretical aspects of the course focus much more on the practical, programming applications of the subject, which helps to support you through your programming project. The programming skills learnt on the course will be transferable to any high-level computer language and the problem-solving skills are widely applicable to any aspect of life. Highlights Develop critical thinking skills that will prepare you for life beyond the classroom. Learn problem solving techniques applicable to many aspects of life. You choose the focus of your programming project (this can incorporate coding, robotics, even 3-D printing).
