If you are planning to study three A levels, we are also offering you the opportunity to study Core Mathematics in Year 12. This course is equivalent to an AS level qualification and is designed to maintain and develop real life maths skills. These skills are increasingly important in the modern workplace and in higher education and this course is particularly useful for students studying subjects with a significant mathematical content (for example, Science, DT, Psychology and Geography). If you enjoy mathematics and are interested in its applications to the real world, Mathematical Studies may be the course for you. This one-year course contains mathematics for personal finance, estimation to solve real-world problems, and examining data sets (including critical analysis of data in the media). It is not possible to study this course if you are studying four A levels or studying A level Mathematics. We advise students who are looking to do Mathematics or courses directly linked to Mathematics (Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) at university to look at A-Level Mathematics instead, as some universities will require it to study these subjects.
