It rewards those with a passion for exploring a diverse literary heritage spanning six centuries, with the coursework (NEA) element being especially flexible. You will read a selection of texts across a range of genres, exploring what they may have to say to us in the 21st Century, and what they say about their own times. More modern texts are studied both as new voices and as part of a tradition. Highlights Take part in regional and national competitions e.g. Laurie Lee prize. GCSE English Literature Grade 7 preferred. You need an enthusiastic approach to reading challenging texts in prose, poetry and drama, an open mind, and the fluency to express your ideas clearly and concisely.
You will be assessed by two written exams and two coursework pieces. Drama and Poetry pre - 1900 You study one play by Shakespeare, one pre‑1900 drama text and one pre‑1900 poetry text - 40% Comparative and Contextual Study - 40% Literature post-1900 (NEA) You study three literary texts (one text for Task 1 and two texts for Task 2). These must include one prose text, one poetry text and one drama text. The texts must have been first published or performed in 1900 or later, with at least one first published or performed in 2000 or later. This component enables you to develop your independent reading and research skills. There is flexibility in text choices
