The first year of the course concentrates on topics which link to and stretch beyond those covered at GCSE, whilst in the second year you will discuss and debate more controversial social and political issues. This course blends history, geography, politics, philosophy and literature and delves into Hispanic film and literature in the two years. Studying a language enhances career prospects in our global, multilingual society. Year 12 is not externally examined. Assessment takes place at the end of the two years and there is a substantial oral component in the exam. To assist students to this end, the Spanish department provides weekly sessions with a Foreign Language Assistant and organises a week’s work experience in Spain, where you can live with a family and work in an area that interests you. It is an invaluable way of increasing language skills, building up personal contacts and real experience of modern Spanish life. Highlights Popular work experience trip to Spain.
