
Geography is an inter-disciplinary subject, bridging the gap between the arts and sciences. It combines a good grounding in physical processes with challenging and contemporary themes in human geography, which provide the depth and rigour required for a future university degree course. The syllabus is designed to challenge your perspectives and stimulate the analytical and investigative skills needed to answer the many questions that we, as geographers, ask about the world around us. Throughout the course you develop your geographical understanding by synthesising all aspects studied previously within the context of environmental issues, both human and physical. You will acquire specific geographical skills and abilities, in particular independent research, fieldwork, analysis and effective communication. We encourage independent learning, wider reading and understanding of current issues to support you develop as well-informed, independent-minded geographers, who can apply your skills to meet the demands of the world as you will find it. Highlights Fieldtrips, conferences, lectures, and the very popular residential week at Nettlecombe Court. Gain skills required for university courses e.g. Economics, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Sciences. Take part in national Geography competitions, e.g. Royal Geographical Society competition for Young Geographer of the Year.
