The A level geography curriculum enables students to explore the world, its issues and their place in it. Within this, they will be able to explore current issues of local, national and global importance in contexts specific to different parts of the world. There is a residential field trip to Flatford Mill to study coastal geomorphology and defences as well as urban change taking place in Colchester. In recent years we have offered an optional trip to Iceland alongside year 11’s to study the landscapes, and see the processes in action.
Physical geography topics: Water and carbon cycles; Coastal systems and landscapes; Hazards Exam: 2 hour 30 minutes. Worth 40% of grade. Human geography topics: Global systems and global governance; Changing places; Contemporary urban environments Exam: 2 hour 30 minutes. Worth 40% of grade. Geography fieldwork investigation. 3000-4000 word individual piece of written up fieldwork. Worth 20% of grade.
