
BTEC Applied Science is an excellent course for those who wish to pursue a career in a variety of scientific fields including Biomedical Science. The course covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics and some Mathematics, with an additional unit in the field of Biology. This course is designed for students who wish to progress to university or alternatively seek an apprenticeship or go directly into employment. The BTEC Applied Science course is equivalent to one A-level and is designed to be studied over two years.
The course is structured into four distinct units, assessed through a combination of internally graded assignments, externally set and marked tasks, and externally assessed written examinations. The units include: Principles and Application of Science, Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques, Science Investigation Skills, and Physiology of Human Body Systems. Two units are examined and externally marked, while the remaining two are assessed through coursework, internally graded by teachers and moderated by the exam board.
