Course summary

This is a two year course that will develop your ability to communicate in Spanish at a higher level and includes the following content: • The evolution of Spanish society • Political and artistic culture in Hispanic countries • Immigration and multicultural society in Spain • Francoist Spain and the transition to democracy • Study of two literary works (either two books or one book and on film) It is assessed by final examination at the end of Year 13 through: Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Translation into English (2 hours) 40% of A Level Paper 2: Writing and Translation into Spanish (literary works) (2 hours 40 minutes) 30% of A Level Paper 3: Speaking (stimulus card, and discussion of a research project on an aspect of Spanish speaking society, culture or political life) Speaking exam: 21-23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time) 30% of A Level

Entry requirements

Grade 7 in GCSE Spanish is usually essential, though students with a Grade 6 who score well in certain skill areas will be considered.
