This is an AS equivalent qualification, designed for students who are studying subjects with Maths content such as Science, Geography, Psychology; or who want to study such subjects at university, but who are not studying AS or A level maths. It is recognised by universities and carries the same UCAS points as an AS level in Maths. It is an AS taken over two years. The content is split in two. The compulsory content covers data analysis and statistics, personal finance, estimation and critical analysis (excellent skills for further education). There is then optional content which covers a variety of mathematics so that the course can be tailored to student’s needs, including further statistics, critical path analysis, graphical methods and some basic economics. The course contains 20% AS Maths content and will be an interesting and challenging alternative AS Maths.
Minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE maths.
There are two 90 min exams, one assessing compulsory content and one assessing optional content. Both are taken at the end of year 13.
