
You will study an exciting range of texts across 3 components: drama, prose and poetry. In Year 12 you will study an anthology of poetry written after the year 2000, you will study a modern play such as A Streetcar Named Desire’, and you will compare two novels with a common theme such as female identity in Tess of the D’Urbervilles and A Thousand Splendid Suns. In Year 13 you will deepen your understanding of these 3 components with a Shakespeare play and the study either of an individual poet or poetic school ssuch as Romanticism.
English Language or English Literature GCSE at 6 grade or above
You will be assessed by two exams in Year 12 and three exams and coursework in Year 13. The coursework is a comparison of two linked novels of your choosing such as comparing representations of childhood in Mister Pip and Great Expectations.
