Course summary

The qualification features familiar and popular themes as well as some new content that provides clear links to some of the most fundamental and interesting aspects of the culture of the target language country and communities. The qualification also offers a rich choice of literary texts and films that includes contemporary and more classical titles, together with authentic source materials from France and the wider French speaking world. During the two years students will discuss and study in depth the following themes: Theme 1 is set in the context of France only. This theme covers social issues and trends. Theme 2 is set in the context of francophone countries and communities. This theme covers artistic culture (through music and festivals and traditions) and political and artistic culture (through media). Theme 3 is set in the context of France only. This theme covers social issues and trends. Theme 4 is set in the context of France only. This theme covers political culture.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE French or students without this will be assessed by the teacher.

How you'll be assessed

The Advanced GCE in French consists of two externally-examined papers assessing listening, reading and writing and a non-examined speaking assessment. The speaking assessment is externally set and conducted by a teacher/examiner. All assessments are marked by the board. Students must complete their speaking assessment in April/May and all other assessments in May/June in any single year.
