Course summary

Course Description The computer science industry is immense and provides a huge opportunity for employment across many areas. While studying this course, you will gain current skills and techniques across various disciplines relevant to industry today. The computer science industry changes at an extremely fast pace. By studying this course you will learn to adapt and mirror the skill sets required. This course provides a foundation to all aspects of programming, with a strong bias to practical study that reflects how industry works. You will examine a range of current topics to establish your skill set and make you more attractive to industry and university. You will be introduced to languages such as Apple’s Swift, Python, HTML, CSS and Javascript, with a focus on business applications and the opportunity to learn iOS application development. The course is taught through lectures, practical sessions, seminars, group work and internet research. You will be assessed by a variety of methods including exams, written, screencast and practical learning. We assume no prior knowledge of programming at the beginning of the course. Interesting fact about studying this at S6C The teaching style allows you to become an independent learner, a skill required by universities and future employers. The course is delivered by staff with industry experience who plan the curriculum to mimic real life business scenarios, giving you valuable experience for your CV. You will also work on the S6C Student IT Help Desk gaining two years of real world experience solving problems and looking after student and staff IT requirements, which can help immensely when moving onto your first job role in the IT industry.

How you'll be assessed

Assessment will consist of two external exams and a further three units internally assessed by coursework, with moderation taking place externally.
