Course summary

Course Description The Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity has been developed to meet the changing needs of the sports sector and will prepare you for the challenges you will face in higher education and/or employment. You can expect to study units such as the anatomy of the body and how the mind affects sports performance, as well as develop your coaching skills, use your creativity to organise a sports event, learn how to treat a range of sports injuries, and improve your own nutrition. Lessons are a mixture of practical and theory based in our modern classrooms or purpose built sporting facilities which include a fitness suite, dance studio and MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area). Lessons are well planned to allow you to develop an extensive knowledge of the sport sector as well as the vital skills required for success. You will have the opportunity to practise your coaching skills at local primary schools, develop emergency first aid skills, attend practical coaching workshops and learn about careers in sport events. We also visit universities to complete lab and fitness testing allowing you to analyse and interpret real data. If sports management interests you, there is a great opportunity for you to organise and deliver your own sports event, inviting you to be creative and put your team work to the test. Assessments range from written reports, PowerPoint presentations, leaflets, practical coaching sessions and analysing investigation data. There are also 2 or 3 units (depending on the size of the qualification you study) that are assessed through an exam. Interesting fact about studying this at S6C While studying sport at S6C you will also have the opportunity to gain additional sport qualifications such as first aid certificates and coaching badges. Our students also complete work experience with some successful recent placements at Salisbury Football Club and Five Rivers Leisure Centre.
