This practical, work-related course will allow you to study aspects of Human Biology to an advanced level. It is equivalent to one A level and lasts two years. You will learn by completing practical and theoretical assessments that are based on use of scientific information in some topics that are linked to medical science, such as human physiology and diagnostics and some that are linked to the ways science is viewed by the media and the general public. You can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction on a BTEC National Certificate course. It is possible to combine it with other qualifications such as AS, A level or GCSEs.
The first year units are: Human Biology Fundamentals, which look at the inner workings of the human body. The coursework in the first year looks in detail at infectious diseases and how they affect humans. In the second year, we study scientific advancements and their role in the perceptions of science. The coursework in the second year is an optional module which we will decide together as a class.
