The course is divided into four units. Three of the units are mandatory: Practical Music Theory and Harmony: practically develop an understanding of music theory and harmony. Professional Practice in the Music Industry: explore the professional roles of people within the music industry. Ensemble Music Performance: work as part of a musical ensemble, developing skills and techniques in rehearsal and performance. The final unit is chosen from four possible options, meaning we can work to learners’ strengths when deciding which to choose. The options are: Composing Music. Music Performance and Session Styles. Solo Performance. Improvising Music.
The course features a mixture of internally and externally assessed units, which are mainly coursework based.
