A fundamental issue facing everyone is the economic problem – trying to satisfy unlimited wants with limited resources. Economists study how all decision-makers behave to try to make best use of resources from individuals and households, to firms and local and national governments. A study of such behaviour means that students can understand and form opinions on many of the most important issues in life. Think about what is in the news at the moment: rising fuel and food prices, falling house prices, child poverty, scrapping the 10% tax band, the impact of globalisation on the world, Brexit, all of these are integral to economics. Some parts of the course involve the use of numbers. Students who are particularly good at Mathematics would find opportunities to put those skills to good use in this subject.
Examinations consist of a mixture of multiple-choice, data response and essay questions.
