This qualification is designed to provide a technical introduction to digital games production. Learners develop skills in areas such as games engine scripting, 3D modelling, and environment and games testing. This qualification is for post-16 learners who are looking to progress to higher or degree apprenticeships, employment, or to further education or training. There are five units to complete over the two years of the course. Learners develop skills that can enable them to plan a digital game, create 3D models and environments, use scripting techniques, and finally put all this together to produce a finished digital game.
There are five units to complete over the two years of study. The first unit is Digital Media Skills. This unit is the largest of all the units and focuses on developing the skills needed to plan a digital game. This synoptic unit is assessed in an external exam. The other four units: Digital Games Production, 3D modelling, 3D Environments, and Game Engine Scripting, are all practical coursework based tasks and are assessed internally and externally moderated.
