
In the first year, you will study two units. One is ‘The Making of a Superpower USA: Part One from Civil War to World War, 1865-1920’. This will look at how the USA developed politically, socially, economically and ideologically. The other is ‘The Making of Modern Britain: Part One Building a New Britain, 1951-1979’. A depth study which focuses on key ideas, events and developments in Britain at this time. In the second year, you will build on your previous work. You continue with ‘The Making of a Superpower USA: Part Two Crisis and the Rise to World Power, 1920-1975’ and also ‘The Making of Modern Britain: Part Two Modern Britain, 1979-2007’. Students also undertake the historical investigation, ‘The Tudor Century 1485-1603’
Grade 5 in GCSE history andGrade 5 in GCSE English language or literature
Students are assessed through two written examinations lasting two and half hours and one historical investigation presented in a 3500 word essay.
