The first year of the course covers the three main strands of chemistry: inorganic, organic and physical, with a focus on practical work which teaches the use of chemicals and their related hazards. Topics covered include atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding and structure, the fundamentals of organic chemistry, energetic and chemical kinetics and the part they all play in industrial chemistry. The second year of the course covers the three main strands of chemistry: inorganic, organic and physical, with a focus on practical work which teaches the use of chemicals and their related hazards. Topics covered include atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding and structure, organic chemistry, transition metal chemistry, energetics, chemical kinetics and equilibria.
Grade 7 in GCSE additional science or Grade 6 in GCSE chemistry, plus Grade 5 in GCSE mathematics and Grade 5 in GCSE English language or literature
