
Physical Education develops knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to physical education. Students gain understanding of the scientific and socio-cultural factors that underpin physical activity, and demonstrate their ability as either performer or coach. Physical Education is studied though a range of different contexts and the impact it has on both ours and other’s everyday lives. You will learn the reasons why we do things, why some people outperform others, mentally and physically. You will also delve into the ethical considerations behind the use of drugs and also the influence that modern technology is having in and on physical activity and sport.
To study PE you will need a minimum of a grade 6 in GCSE PE.
There is a combination of examined and non-examined assessment. A total of four hours assessment split over three examination papers (2x 1 hour and 1x 2 hour) taken at the end of the two year course (70% of marks). The Non-Examined Assessments (NEA) consist of: one practical performance, as either a coach or a performer in an activity (15%) and an evaluating and analysing performance for improvement EAPI (15%).
