This course is designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge for working as an early years educator in preschool and nursery settings. The range of units encourages a holistic view of child development and work experience to help develop the practical skills required for working with children. To work in the early years setting you need to be caring, responsible, good with children, patient, calm, efficient, energetic and creative. The course is a demanding academic subject, and you will need to be committed to the course for two years. The National Diploma is equivalent in size to two A Levels. Appropriate for those with an interest in directly progressing to a career as an Early Years Educator or to higher Work experience is mandatory, and you will be required to source your own placement. Course Overview: The content of the qualification meets the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the role of the early years educator. All the content is mandatory, and will cover the following topics: • children’s development • keeping children safe • observation, assessment and planning • play and learning • reflective practice • supporting children’s early learning • The Early Years Foundation Stage • working with parents. All learners taking this qualification will be required to engage with sector employers as part of their course. This includes 750 hours of mandatory work experience, and production of a Practical Evidence Portfolio (PEP), to record evidence of engagement in continuing professional development and reflective practice in different early year settings.
You should have achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and have studied this qualification at level 2. previously. You should ideally have achieved a Merit or higher at Level 2.
