Choosing this Course This is a vocational 2 year course offering students the opportunity to work within a semi-professional industry setting. This course is aimed at students who wish to embark upon a career in the Musical Theatre industry, apply to Drama School or study Musical Theatre or the Performing Arts at Higher Education Level. Places are granted through an audition process. Course Content Unit 27 - Musical Theatre Techniques: A mixture of practical and written unit which allows for exploration into different styles/genres of Musical Theatre. Students will understand the historical context and be given the opportunity to develop your practical skills as a varied Musical Theatre performer. Unit 10 - Jazz Dance: A practical unit where you explore the origins and development of Jazz dance. Students will develop their skills in a variety of Jazz dance styles which will be applied to performances. Unit 23 – Singing Techniques for Performers: A practical unit where students will explore the principles of sound production, technical, vocal and singing skills for performance. Students will be given the opportunity to apply these skills into performances. Unit 34 - Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance: A practical unit where students explore the roles and skills of a performer. Students will explore and develop a variety of performance disciplines and styles and be given the opportunity to apply this to performances. Unit 3 - Group Performance Workshop: A practical unit where you will be provided with a stimulus by the examination board and will be expected to devise a piece of theatre based on that stimuli. You will be required to track your progress at three intervals along the process. Career Opportunities With a Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts – Musical Theatre, students will be equipped with the skills to apply to Drama School or gain entry onto a Degree course studying the Performing Arts, Musical Theatre or Drama. Equally students may be equipped with the skills to enter straight into the industry.
