Course summary

What we Study? Philosophy: The central question in philosophy is whether we can prove that God exists? We look at the four key arguments. The Design argument, Cosmological argument, Religious Experience and, finally, the Problem of Evil. We reflect also on the use of religious language and consider if talking about religion is meaningful? Could it ever be possible to prove God’s existence through religious experiences? Ethics: Students study a combination of informative, applied and Meta ethics. Here students analyse the possibility that morality is dependent on the existence of God as the ground of moral values. Students also examine a range of issues associated with sexual ethics, including homosexuality and pornography; which are considered from religious and secular perspectives. There will also be an invesitagation of the Utilitiarianism and Situation Ethics and Medical Ethics. Islam: As Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, we will be investigating the historical developments of the faith from the time of Muhammed until the current day. Identifying the key features of ther Islamic beliefs and practices as well as the social context today. Pupils then build on the modern view of the faith, women and Islam and the concept of Ummah in today’s society..
