
BTEC Firsts in Information and Creative Technology provide a practical, real-world approach to learning and develop specific knowledge and skills learners need to work successfully in the industry, such as: • Understanding the online world, services and communication, and the impact it has on business, social networking and online security • Developing technical skills by learning about hardware, software, networking and data and the relationship between them all • Using creative, communication and presentation skills when designing and producing a digital portfolio. What you will study: You will study the units listed below, providing approximately 120 guided learning hours. • Unit 1 the Online World - How do websites work? How do emails reach your computer? How does the use of computer applications affect your daily life? This unit provides an introduction to the modern online world. This unit will help you understand the main technologies and processes behind the internet and investigate how they come together to let you view websites and send information across the world. • Unit 3 Digital Portfolio - A digital portfolio is an exciting onscreen way for you to showcase your achievements to potential employers or when applying for a course. You will showcase the projects you have created and developed, your use of communication and presentation skills and overall capabilities and potential. Digital portfolios can be viewed by anyone with a computer and covers programming concepts. • Unit 10 Database Development - Investigate the features and uses of databases by exploring what they are and what you can do with them. Learn how to use database software to design, develop and test relational databases for a brief. Skills you will gain: Digital literacy skills in the following applications: • Word Processor • Web Authoring tools and software • Database software Career Paths: As IT has become an integral part of learning, the ability to create professional documents, manipulate data and deliver high quality presentations is a vital skill that can be used in further learning and work placements. IT skills are used a variety of job roles in all kinds of organisations including those in manufacturing, retail, education, hospitality, health and social care, business services, ransport and public services. Please note: This is a one year course. Dependant on your Maths and English retake grades, this qualification can lead to further learning options including: • IT BTEC Level 3 • Business Studies BTEC Level 3
