Course summary

Students will complete three mandatory units, which are sub-divided into a number of different topics and taught across the two years. The units build upon the knowledge gained at GCSE and students will develop practical skills throughout the course, which will lead to a separately assessed practical skills endorsement. In year 12 students will study the following topics: •Atomic structure and the amount of a substance •Bonding •Energetics and kinetics •Chemical equilibria and Le Chatelier’s principal •The periodic table – Group 2 and 7 •Introduction to organic chemistry – Alkanes, Alkenes, Halogenoalkanes and Alcohols Unit Breakdown Students will study three units: Unit 1 – Physical Chemistry Unit 2 – Inorganic Chemistry Unit 3 – Organic Chemistry

Entry requirements

A minimum of grade B in GCSE Core and Additional Science or in GCSE Chemistry A minimum of grade 6 in Maths (This is required due to the mathematical content in the qualification)
