Students will study eight mandatory units and AQA have worked with employers and professional bodies to ensure this course covers all the knowledge and skills needed for a student to fully understand the interface between mechanical and electronic engineering within a modern engineering context. Students will cover topics such as: • Scientific principals used by engineers to identify the most suitable materials • Engineering context • Using maths as an aid to model and solve problems across a range of practical engineering contexts • Mechanical engineering systems and components • Design and construction of a mechatronic control system • Engineering design process • The role and relevance that manufacturing processes and systems have in the production of multiple components • Designing programs to drive engineering systems Unit Breakdown • Students who take double design engineering will study 8 units: • Unit 1 – Materials technology and science • Unit 2 – Mechanical systems • Unit 3 – Mathematics for engineers • Unit 4 – Engineering design • Unit 5 – Production and manufacturing • Unit 6 – Mechatronics project management • Unit 7 – Mechatronic control systems • Unit 8 – Programming for engineers
