
BTEC National Extended Certificate in Music Performance QAN code 60170906/LF1 This course is a natural continuation of Music in Key Stage 4. It is appropriate for people who have studied music at GCSE or BTEC Level 2, as well as people who are competent performers on either voice or an instrument. It is an exciting course which allows pupils to study the types of music they are interested in, developing their skills and offering routes into the world of the music industry. This qualification is equivalent to an A Level and is accepted by universities as the equivalent in terms of entry requirements. Mandatory Units Unit 1: Practical Music Theory & Harmony Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance Optional Units - one to be chosen from the following: Unit 9 – Composing music Unit 12 – Music Promotion Unit 16 – Music Performance Session Styles Unit 18 – Solo Performance Unit 20 – Music Software Skills Although it is recommended that pupils would have gained a grade 5 or higher in GCSE Music or a Level 2 Merit or higher at BTEC, those pupils who are confident players/singers are also eligible. These decisions will be made based upon the individual cases of students. Taught vertically with Year 13. Future Opportunities - This qualification is essential for anyone considering a music course in Higher Education, and is also an excellent addition for learners looking to select a well-rounded choice of subjects. It allows learners to follow a music/arts degree; leading to careers in music therapy, arts administration, performance and arts teaching.
Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below).
Units 1 and 3 are externally assessed. Unit 2 and the optional unit will be internally assessed by teaching staff.
