A Level Art, Craft & Design QAN Code: 60144567/3510 The main purpose of this course is to develop your ability to appreciate and respond to the visual world in an independent and creative way. You will build upon skills from your GCSE course, including new media techniques and methods of working. You must be prepared to work hard and actively participate. You will also be required to complete sketchbook work to support each coursework element. You will be asked to respond to a subject/theme and create a personal response that explores observations, critical and contextual research, development and a final outcome. Taught as a vertical group with Year 13. Component 1: A personal investigation into a subject of your choice that covers 4 main objectives and in Year 13 requires a written element of a 1,000 words to support the practical work. Includes: observational drawing, critical studies, development and end product. This component requires much more independence, innovation and decision making in order to achieve a successful personal and written response. Component 2: Externally set assignment.
A minimum of five GCSE passes at grades 4 or 5 including English Language and Maths. Students must then meet subject specific typical minimum entry requirements (listed below).
All work is marked internally against four assessment objectives and then externally moderated. Each coursework unit is marked separately. Component 1: 60% of the grade Component 2: 40% of the grade.
