
BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport QAN code 60172186/MA1 The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport looks at the principles and practices within the sport, coaching and fitness industry. This course is equivalent to 1 A level and involves pupils undertaking 2 externally marked exams in anatomy and physiology and fitness testing and programming plus units that are internally marked. The course is mainly theoretical; it analyses many aspects of sport and is delivered through a variety of methods, within the classroom and by using the PE facilities. Areas taught include: Anatomy and Physiology Fitness testing and programming Professional development in the sports industry Sports leadership Pupils following this course are expected to participate in sport and play an integral part in the school Leadership Academy.
A minimum of five GCSE passes at grades 4 or 5 including English Language and Maths. Students must then meet subject specific typical minimum entry requirements (listed below).
The course is assessed through 2 externally assessed exams plus 2 internally assessed units that are assignment based. An overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction can be awarded.
