
BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care QAN code 60171984/PA1 This course provides a broad Level 3 introduction to the health and social care sector. This qualification has been designed to be the only qualification in a two-year, full-time study programme; it is an in-depth study of the health and social care sector. It supports progression to health and social care related degrees. It is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Pupils will study thirteen units of work: Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care Unit 3: Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Unit 6: Work Experience in Health and Social Care Unit 7: Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care Unit 8: Promoting Public Health Plus five optional units selected from: Sociological Perspectives, Psychological Perspectives, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, Physiological disorders, Infection Prevention and Control, Nutritional Health depending on numbers and staffing * Please also select Health & Social Care (Single Award) and (Double Award) as your other two choices *
A minimum of five GCSE passes at grades 4 or 5 including English Language and Maths. Students must then meet subject specific typical minimum entry requirements (listed below).
Unit 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be assessed by an externally marked exam. All other units by either by internally or externally marked coursework.
