What will you study? The course is designed for people wanting to feed or inform the nation and you will learn a range of techniques and build a sound knowledge of food science. Course components Year 12: Unit 1 (Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups). Consists of one controlled assessment (internally assessed) and one externally-assessed 90-minute exam in May / June of the same academic year. Year 13: Consists of Unit 2 (Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat) And one other externally assessed optional Unit; either Unit 3: Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems OR Unit 4: Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition planning Future Pathways The subject is designed primarily to support you progressing to university and by studying this award alongside other relevant qualifications at Level 3 such as Biology, Sociology or Sport, you will gain the required knowledge to use the qualification to support entry to higher education courses such as BSc degrees in Food and Nutrition, Food Production and Agriculture, Food Advertising, Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition and Food Science and Technology.
