Course summary

Why study this course? From small, single-owner enterprises to large multi-national organisations, the impact of businesses is far reaching. They provide goods and services, create jobs and growth in the economy, as well as creating new opportunities through skills development and innovation. The Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business offers a wide choice of units, including business functions, the external environment, working in a business and the importance of making decisions in business. You will be required to work independently and in groups; write detailed reports; work with external organisations and business people and deliver presentations. The course is student-led, with a strong emphasis on independent learning and research. What will you study? The business environment provides you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of how and why businesses operate in the way they do. Course components The business environment allows you to develop an understanding of how and why businesses operate in the way they do. You will look at a range of different types of business and business structures, and explore how the ownership of a business and its objectives are interrelated. You will learn about the importance of different functions within a business, the legal, financial, ethical and resource constraints under which and explore ways in which businesses respond to changes in their economic, social and technological environment, and the necessity for a business to plan. Working in business allows you to understand the day-to-day roles within a business. You will develop a practical awareness of the skills that are needed by employees for a business to be successful. Customers and communication examines the purpose, methods and importance of communication in business and the appropriateness of different forms of communication for different situations. Marketing and market research will enable you to understand the different marketing strategies that businesses utilise. You will gain important knowledge about the legal aspect of marketing and how these can influence the decisions that are made in a business. Principles of project management allows you to study the stages of project management and the type of skills a project manager needs. Future Pathways This qualification will provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into higher education on a business-related programme, such as Business, Business Management, Marketing, Business and Finance, Business and Economics, Accounting, and Certificate or Diploma in Human Resource Management. It will also allow you to choose non-business related degree programmes or enter the world of work.

Entry requirements

English Language or English Literature 4, Mathematics 4 L2 Pass in Enterprise & Marketing (if taken) or a Grade 4 in Business (if taken)

How you'll be assessed

50% Written Examination 50% Non Exam Assessment There are two extermal exams - one in January of Year 12 and one in January of Year 13
