What will you study? In Year 12 you will study three key areas: Core Mathematics (proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and vectors), Statistics (data presentation and interpretation; probability; statistical distributions; hypothesis testing), and Mechanics (quantities and units in mechanics; kinematics; forces and Newton’s laws) In Year 13 you will continue to study in greater depth these three core areas: Core Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics – same as Year 12 content but to a greater depth, also including, numerical methods, parametrics, differential equations, moments and normal distribution. Course components The course is two years with internal exams being taken part way through Year 12. These will be at an AS-standard which will aid in the determining of predicted grade, with three external exams to determine the final grade at the end of year 13. Future Pathways You could go on to university to study for a mathematics related degree or pursue a career in mathematics. Engineering and most areas of physics, most science-based subjects, medicine, computing, accountancy, economics, business, banking, air traffic control, retail management, architecture, surveying, cartography, psychology and, of course, teaching, are just some of the possibilities.
