

Why study this course? You will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and understanding for entry to employment in the music industry or progression to higher education. You will undertake structured learning in composition, performance, music listening and analysis. You will also participate in the school musical, and other co curricular activities, to assist with your knowledge and understanding of musical theatre. What will you study? Areas of study include the Development of the Symphony; Musical Theatre; and either Into the Twentieth Century or Into the Twenty-First Century. There is a Symphony to study as a set work, and two short twentieth-century pieces. Course components Performing is assessed by a visiting examiner, giving a much more realistic scenario than a recording, allowing students to demonstrate their communication of the music to the listener, and giving a real sense of occasion. Composition is assessed through two pieces and preference can be given to either Performance or Composition, the preference being higher weighted. Future Pathways Music will enable you to demonstrate many skills which employers, colleges and universities will be looking for. It can also give you opportunities to travel, meet people and get the most out of life. Many students go on to study Music at Music College or at university. Skills developed in this A-Level also equip students to read a range of other subjects at university as diverse as: Acting, Art, Arts Journalism, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Science, English and Drama, English Literature, French, Geography, Japanese, Liberal Arts, Marine Biology, Maths, Medicine, Midwifery, Modern Languages, Journalism, Occupational Therapy, Physics, Politics, Primary Education, Psychology, Sports Science, and Veterinary Medicine.
