Course summary

Why study this course? The WJEC Eduqas A-Level in Drama and Theatre is a highly practical course designed to promote a balance between practical theatre making and the theoretical understanding of drama and theatre. It is a stimulating and engaging course of study, which encourages learners to make connections between dramatic theory and their own practice. By enrolling on this course you can develop your existing performance ability and use this towards achieving an A-Level. You’ll gain confidence, learn to work within a team and balance a range of ideas. Whilst studying this course you’ll have a mix of practical and written work whilst having fun! What will you study? This course concentrates on three key areas of study: Theatre Workshop, Text in Action and Theatre Performance. Learners study five performance texts, three complete texts and two extracts, representing a range of social, historical and cultural contexts. Course components The complete texts are studied for the written examination and the key extracts are divided between all three components. Learners also study at least three influential theatre practitioners (individuals or companies) and produce three performances: one text performance, one devised performance and one performance based on a creative reinterpretation of an extract from a text. Future Pathways Drama will enable you to demonstrate many skills which employers, colleges and universities will be looking for.
