Course summary

The AQA Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a useful course which is recognised by most Universities and give our students an insight to undergraduate approaches in autonomous research work as necessary for a dissertation. For our students the Extended Project develops and extends from an area of personal interest or activity outside their main programmes of A level study. It will be based on a topic chosen by the student(s) and agreed as appropriate by us at the school. Delivery of the Extended Project Qualification in Sydney Russell Sixth Form takes place during five weekly periods. This covers teaching of the necessary skills along with supervision and assessment of the student’s progress. It will involve extended autonomous work by the student and will require in total 120 guided learning hours. Our students are required, with appropriate supervision, to: • choose an area of interest • draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval • plan, research and carry out the project • deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience • provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment. We think this is an exciting opportunity for students to push themselves and develop their skills in preparation for future studies at university.
