Course summary

Who is the course for? This course is open to all students that wish to pursue an Art or Media based career. Good communications skills are required for in depth writing to support coursework. What you’ll learn? Unit 1: Art and Design - Photography Coursework: Students should submit supporting studies, a linked personal study of 1000-3000 words and practical outcomes from personal starting points. Work to be submitted for final teacher assessment. Centre marks are submitted to Edexcel in advance of sample moderation. Unit 2: Art and Design Photography Externally Set Assignment: Students should submit supporting studies and practical outcome(s) in response to the given theme. The externally set paper will be available to centre staff during January of each year as a paper copy and through the secure content section of the website. The timed element of twelve (15) hours is carried out under controlled conditions at any time at the centre’s discretion after the papers are released to students. All Units are assessed in school and verified through external moderation. How you’ll learn Classroom based learning What you can do next You could move on to higher education to study for any one of a range of art and design related foundation, HND /HNC or degree courses. There are apprenticeship opportunities for roles within the creative industries including in specialist crafts, design, digital design and photography. Transferable skills including creative flair, imagination, critical analysis, problem solving and specialist IT skills can be put to use in a wide range on non-art related careers. What you can do to prepare for the course You choose your own independent theme, choose a broad word as it will be your theme for this year and the start of next. Buy an A3 sketchbook with good quality paper (140+ gsm).Title page with your chosen theme title. Visual collection of images of artwork/ photography or other media sources that relate to your chosen theme – show us what you are interested in Synopsis – Please type up why you have chosen your theme, think outside the box and explain all your thoughts. This should be a couple of paragraphs long. Spider Diagram – write down as many words you can think of to fill the page Statement of Intent/ Inspiration. Please choose one of your ideas and plan a photo-shoot. Make sure you state what you want to convey in your photo-shoot? What do you want people to think when they look at your images? For your inspiration look at a photographer or artist from the art today website: https://www.art2day.co.uk/ Photo-shoot – Take your photographs and print them as a contact sheet. Also print your strongest 4 to a larger scale. Observational Drawing – At the end of your photo-shoot ask your model or use your location to draw from observation. You need to complete 2 A3 drawings. Drawing from Photographs – Draw from your four chosen photographs, please use a different media for each drawing e.g. pen, pencil, paint, wire…. Drawing a section from a photograph is fine but please fill your A3 page.
