
What do I need to know or be able to do before taking this course? Students choosing this course should be passionate about Drama and Theatrical Arts attending plays and performances often. Not only should you be able to perform and understand what a performer must do as an individual but you should have a passion to study plays from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic. A knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well good analytical; skills is essential also. What will I learn on this course? • Devising theatre – The difference in the roles of a playwright, performer, designer and director. • Performing theatre - How to apply your knowledge, skills and understanding within the structure of a director’s interpretation of a play • How to research and develop a piece of your own work as well as the perform a final performance in front of an identified audience. What skills will I develop by doing this course? This course is for students who enjoy practical performance work and have a passion for drama and theatre. However, it is not just aimed at students who wish to pursue careers in the performing arts. It is a wide ranging course that will develop numerous transferable skills such as: • Communication skills – building confidence with public speaking and presentations • Group/social/team building skills • Imagination and creativity • A diverse understanding of culture or social issues.
