Why take the course? A Level Government and Politics is an academically demanding course ideal for those with an analytical mind. You will investigate UK politics with political ideologies in Year 12 before comparing and contrasting the UK to US government and politics in Year 13. Summary of what is studied (specification) Component 1 - Political Participation in the UK. You will study democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. Core political ideas studied: conservatism, liberalism, socialism. Component 2 - UK Government. You will study the constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, relationships between the branches. Non-core political ideas studied: anarchism. Component 3 - US Government and Politics. You will study the US Constitution and federalism, US Congress, US presidency, US Supreme Court and civil rights, democracy and participation, comparative theories. Where could this qualification take you?
