Sociology is the study of human social relationships, institutions and their behaviour. Sociology’s subject matter is wide ranging, from crime to education, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture. Drawing together the study of these diverse subjects is Sociology’s purpose: understanding how human action and consciousness create cultural and social structures using evidence-based material. Sociology is topical and will suit those students interested in the world around them. Students will engage in critical thinking skills, analysis, literacy and debating traditional theories. Over the two-year course you will study: • Families and households • Education and research methods • The mass media • Crime and deviance • Theory and methods
We ask for 5 GCSE grades 9-4 but will accept students who need to retake Maths and/or English Language GCSE.
At the end of the course you will sit three 2 hours examinations.
