If you are passionate about learning more about different people and places, the impact we are having on our environment, and the possible solutions to some of the worlds biggest global issues—then Geography is the subject for you! Studying Geography at Aylward Academy will inspire you to learn more about the beautiful, yet increasingly complex world that we live in. As an enquiry based subject it will help you to make sense of the challenges that you face, promote your creative and critical thinking, and give you the opportunity to draw from your own experiences. Geography A Level will allow you to develop subject specific skills such as fieldwork and GIS (Geographical Investigation Systems). However, the course also enhances key transferable skills such as communication, essay and report writing, independent research and statistical analysis.. All of these, will better prepare you for further education and future employment. WHAT’S COVERED? As part of the course you will study four physical and four human topics—Hazardous Earth, Coastal Landscapes and Change, the Water Cycle and Water Insecurity, the Carbon Cycle and Energy Security, Globalisation, Regenerating Places, Superpowers, Migration Identity and Sovereignty. Within each topic there are a number of integrated skills and synoptic links. Additionally, it is required for you to attend four days of fieldwork which will support you to complete an independent investigation in an area of geography that interests you from the specification . FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES The Russell Group, have stated that Geography is a facilitating subject, which allows you to undertake a wide variety of undergraduate degrees. According to the Royal Geographical Society, Geography graduates have some of the highest rates of graduate employment. Geography is great for careers that involve environment, planning, or collecting and interpreting data such as surveying, conservation, sustainability, tourism, weather forecasting. The police, government, research organisations, journalism, law and business world also love the practical skills that geographers develop. Also, because geographers learn about human population and development it can lead to jobs in charities and international relations.
5 GCSE grades at 9-4 including English and Maths. A grade 5 or higher in GCSE Geography.
