WHY STUDY RELIGIOUS STUDIES, PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS? Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics will give you an opportunity to delve into some of the most fascinating questions that have been discussed and debated for centuries. The course will give you a better understanding into the effects of religion past and present; and develop the ability to build and prepare for debates. WHAT’S COVERED? The course focuses on three main areas: Philosophy of religion, Ethics and an in-depth study of a particular religion. Philosophy of religion provides a sound basis for understanding and reflecting on the contemporary influence of religion, the views of those who do not share a religious belief and the impact of these factors on people’s lives. Students will consider whether there are any proofs for the existence of God or indeed whether religious believers need to be able to prove God’s existence at all. Ethics looks at various ethical theories and applies them to several controversial ethical issues, such as euthanasia. In this unit, you delve further into these debates than you would have done at GCSE level. The third area is an in depth study of a religion. Here you will focus on a particular religion’s beliefs and practices in a far deeper way than covered at GCSE. We will cover the historical development of a religion. FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics can prepare you for careers in law, teaching, social care, journalism, civil service and management. Additionally, the course can open doors to careers in the charity sector and academia.
