WHY STUDY DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES? Drama is about learning how to find connections with other people, sharing experiences through story, expressing ideas and challenging beliefs. It can force you to reflect on your own views and may even shape them. Whether you’re a born actor, writer, director or designer you will discover a wealth of techniques and ideas to bring your scripts alive, make your performances to die for and your productions hard-hitting or side splitting. By developing your writing, speaking and analytical skills through this course you will also enhance other areas of study. Engaging and participating in drama will help build your confidence and allow you to explore and develop your interests and passions. WHAT’S COVERED? In Drama & Theatre studies you will learn about what goes into creating your own theatrical piece. You will learn how to work in groups and have the opportunity to perform in front of others FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES A level Drama and Theatre studies is considered to be a good currency for entrance to university. Students with A level Drama and Theatre studies have a huge range of career prospects open before them, from going down the Performing Arts and Drama schools’ route to using their analytical, empathic and critical thinking skills in Law, Psychology or Sciences.

ASSESSMENT Component 1: Devising Non-examination assessment 40% of the qualification 80 marks.AO1, AO2 and AO4. Devised an original piece of theatre based on one key extract of performance text and practitioner as stimuli. A portfolio (60 marks, 40 marks assessing AO1 and 20 marks assessing AO4) Component 2: Text in Performance 20% of the qualification. 60 marks.AO2. This component is externally assessed by a visiting examiner. A group performance from one key published extract. 36 marks A monologue or duologue from a different performance text. Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice. 40% of the qualification 80 marks. Written examination 2 hours and 30 minutes Section A: Live Theatre evaluation.20 marks.AO4 Section B: Page to Stage. 36 marks.AO3 Section C: Interpreting a Performance text. 24 marks.AO3
