WHY STUDY BUSINESS? What happened to Thomas cook? Why is Mothercare in trouble? Brexit– what happens now? A set of company accounts shows that despite a turn over £1.3m last year; they not making a profit; why? Are managers worth high salaries? Why don’t women earn as much as men? Is globalisation good or bad for consumers? If you are interested in discovering the answers to these and many more questions, then ‘A’ Level Business is for you. You will gain an insight into the dynamic world of business. You will gain an holistic understanding of business in a range of contexts, developing a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants. This course will help you to appreciate how and why business decisions are made and how they affect a variety of people – both within the business and external. Studying ‘A’ Level Business at Aylward Academy will equip and prepare you not just for Higher Education, but beyond. Whether you want to start your own business, work in the private or public sector. WHAT’S COVERED? You will study a broad range of topics, from the role of an entrepreneur to controlling multi-national corporations. You will consider business ethics, exploring issues of wage discrimination, and treatment of workers in foreign countries. You will apply numerical skills in a range of business contexts and understand how to interpret a set of company accounts and learn how to carry out investment appraisal. You will study four themes over 2 years: Marketing and People, Managing Business Activities , Business Decisions and Strategy and Global Business FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES The qualification provides a solid foundation for studies at a higher level in the following subject areas: business management, business administration, accountancy and finance, economics, human resource management, marketing, retail management, tourism management and international business. The qualification may also lead on to a career in the commercial world, for example in banking, sales, product management or general management. Business and management skills are also considered desirable skills to have in public sector organisations or charities.

5 GCSE grades at 9-5 including English and Maths

How you'll be assessed

ASSESSMENT Exam board: Edexcel. 100% exam based. There are three exam papers that will assess the content of all four themes. Paper 1 Marketing, people and global business 35% Paper 2 Business activities, decisions and strategy 35% Paper 3 Investigating business in a competitive environment 30%
